book synopsis:
Lucca has always known that summer romances come with an expiration date. Growing up on a small tourist island in Italy meant watching visitors arrive full of promises and leave before September brought the first rains. Then he meets Clara. For the first time, Lucca believes that maybe some stories can survive the end of summer. On the night of the Feast of Saint Lawrence, they jump together from an ancient cliff the locals call Rocca Rovesciata — the Inverted Rock. But when Lucca emerges from the sea, the world feels upside down, and Clara doesn’t remember their romance. She has no memory of stolen kisses on the beach or whispered secrets during sunsets, and sees him as a friend she recently met on the island.
As Lucca searches for a way to undo the cliff’s effect, he must decide how far he is willing to go to recover a story that may have never truly existed. Some people enter our lives to turn everything upside down, and still show us that love might be found in small details we almost missed.
This is a personal/speculative project. I used an existing piece from my collage portfolio as a starting point and explored how it might work as a book cover for this specific genre, creating a fictional editorial concept around it.
