in this photographic series, I capture the attitude of several figures searching for light on the shore of a mountain lake. among them are a cormorant taking flight just above the water’s surface, and three hikers gathered on a sunlit islet. at high altitude, the autumn light is fleeting, ephemeral. a disappointment for walkers or animals… yet a blessing for photographers like me. on the trees surrounding the lake, the ochre leaves crackle for the last time that day. all around them, the cold colors—black, dark green, and the strange turquoise of the water—wait patiently for their moment.
with this serie, I reflect on our relationship to light as winter approaches. coming from a warm country, I find this seasonal transformation unusual and particularly compelling. as the days grow shorter and the cold looms, the sun ignites the horizon one last time with its finest rays. the incandescent foliage of the trees on the islet reminds me of the light in a Rembrandt painting: a digital chiaroscuro in which the figures of that mountain afternoon, myself included, found refuge.
